GFWC Philomathic Club

The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), founded in 1890, is a federation of over 3,000 women's clubs in the united States which promote civic improvements through volunteer service. GFWC maintains nearly 80,000 members throughout the United States and internationally. GFWC remains one of the world's largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational, women's volunteer service organizations.

Anadarko's GFWC Philomathic Club was founded in 1899 by Annette Ross Hume, local pioneer and photographer. Hume was among America's first female photographers, Over 700 of her glass plate negatives were documented and became the central photographic collections of the University of Oklahoma's Phillips Collection *now the Western History Collections) in 1927.

Two of our Philomathic Club's major civic projects are the Anadarko Heritage Museum and the Anadarko Library.
